Christmas at Columbia Presbyterian

A Truthful Advent

This Advent season, we invite you to join us for a journey that embraces the full story of Christmas—both its wonder and its complexity. In our series “A Truthful Advent,” we’ll explore how the first characters in the Christmas story navigated a world much like ours: filled with both extraordinary hope and undeniable brokenness.

A SEASON OF LIGHT AND SHADOW.

Advent is a season of two realities. On one hand, we celebrate gifts and good news—angels singing, shepherds welcomed, a baby born under a sky full of promise. On the other, Scripture does not shy away from the shadows: fear, uncertainty, and moments that would never make it onto a greeting card.

The people in the Christmas story lived in a world that was both beautiful and broken. So do we.

Throughout this series, we’ll reflect on how followers of God have always learned to hold joy and sorrow together—how we can tell the truth about our world and still lean into hope. As we follow the stories of Mary, Joseph, shepherds, and Magi, we’ll discover how their honest faith can guide us today.

We hope you’ll join us for these four weeks as we enter this season thoughtfully and faithfully—learning how to hold the light and the darkness, together.
