John Yu
I come to Columbia Presbyterian Church with a diverse set of experiences and interests. I lived in Korea, New Jersey, North Carolina, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Texas, and Colorado. I lived in big cities, suburbs, and small towns. I served in big churches, medium-sized churches, and small churches. I was involved in youth ministry, college and young adult ministry, bilingual ministry, and intergenerational ministry. I even organized a new worshipping community. I have served in local congregations, presbyteries, and other non-profit parachurch organizations.
My wife, Meesun, is a registered nurse. She is the wise sage in our family. We have three children, Jean, Micah, and Haley. They are born in three different states: Texas, North Carolina, and Colorado, respectively. We love doing things together as family – especially travelling and exploring new places.
I love to try and learn new things too – new food, new hobbies, new cultures, whatever it may be. I am trying to get better at photography, nail down that perfect Texas style brisket recipe, and learn the culture of the Pacific Northwest. I am also on the lookout for the best coffee shop too.
All this has taught me that our God is bigger than we can possibly imagine – way bigger, wider, and deeper than my biggest imagination. And yet this grand God knows me and loves me. He wants to have a relationship with me and walk beside me. And all this was made possible through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is the truth I am passionate about sharing. And I look forward to serving this wonderful community of CPC, as it seeks to share God’s amazing love in this world.
