Jeff Haagenson

Minister of Worship & Music

One of the many things I love about Columbia is its appreciation for varied musical expression in worship. When I was exploring how to use my diverse musical background to serve the Lord, Columbia offered me a role where I now incorporate my passion into classical, traditional, popular, contemporary, bluegrass, and jazz styles of worship music. Working with both the contemporary worship band and leading the traditional choir has been a true joy. As a composer and arranger of classical and contemporary music, it’s a privilege to prepare Sunday worship that brings each message to life. I also enjoy organizing our annual Christmas Concerts and various special worship services.

My background includes directing music at the high school and college levels, and I feel honored to work with high school students at Columbia, incorporating them into the worship team and mentoring them as the next generation of worship musicians.

My wife, Anna, is also a musician, and we frequently perform together. We have three boys—James, Matthew, and Adam.

In my spare time, I work on my hobby of playing traditional Hawaiian guitar, performing at various venues around Vancouver and Portland. I also enjoy biking, skiing, snowboarding, exercising, and savoring a great cup of coffee. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in music and business from Concordia College and a Master’s degree in music performance and history from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Through music, mentoring, and collaboration, I’m honored to bring my gifts to Columbia’s worship experience and the broader community.
